Issue:
Class instructor is unable to email their TA directly from the People communications section of Canvas
Solution:
This is intended behavior by Canvas. When an instructor clicks on a student name from the "People" link, they are accessing the student context card which does allow them to send an message to the student directly. Important to note this isn't a direct email rather a message sent within Canvas. Depending on how a user's notification preferences are defined will depend on when or if they receive the message via email. Instructors and TAs do not have a context card. When you click on their name from the "People" link you are directed to that user's profile. Canvas does not display a user's email here as a contact method as those are only used for Canvas notifications. Canvas users should contact each other via conversations inside the inbox, located on the black vertical menu bar .
