Email authentication uses an email sent to the email address registered as the primary email for the Okta account. The email will contain a verification code used to complete the okta signing.

WSU does not support email authentication; This option is not available.

Email based MFA has is vulnerable to phishing attacks. Email MFA requires WSU to trust external email providers, and cannot be used for WSU accounts that are tied to the WSU email system.

How to Get Email MFA

When setting up a WSU Friend ID (FID), your WSU account is associated with an external email provider. Email MFA will be sent to the email address provided in the FriendID request.

How to Set Up email MFA

Email authentication is automatically set up when you enable your Friend ID.

How to Use email for MFA

  1. Enter your username to login in to login.wsu.edu
  2. Enter your password when prompted*
  3. When prompted to select a security option, select "Email"
  4. Wait for an email to arrive with verification details
  5. Enter the code from the email into the Okta Login Widget
