Instructors can utilize the Zoom tool in Canvas to schedule office hours, host study sessions, and more.
Note: For courses scheduled as 100% in-person, Zoom should not be used for class sessions. Department approval is needed for remote teaching situations and courses must be scheduled in myWSU per Provost requirements. For additional information regarding how your course is scheduled, please contact your department scheduler or refer to the Office of the Registrar: Instruction Modes.
Zoom for Video Conference Courses
If you are teaching a video conference course, please refer to the Zoom Meeting: Connections and Settings article within the Video Conference Courses section of the Knowledge Base.
Add Zoom to Your Course Navigation
Instructions on how to add the Zoom tool to your course navigation can be found in the Upgrading to Zoom 1.3 in Canvas Knowledge Base article.
Using Zoom Through Canvas
Once added to your course navigation, the Zoom tool can be used to schedule meetings, access recordings, and more. Additional information can be found in the Zoom LTI 1.3 Features Knowledge Base article.
Note: Prior to accessing Zoom through Canvas, navigate to WSU Zoom and sign in to provision your account.
Schedule Zoom Meetings Through Canvas
Zoom meetings can be scheduled directly within your Canvas course space by selecting the Schedule a New Meeting button within the Zoom 1.3 tool.
When scheduling a meeting through the Zoom 1.3 tool in Canvas, the topic or meeting name will auto-fill with the Canvas course ID.
Accessing Zoom Recordings Through Canvas
When a meeting scheduled through Canvas is set up to record to the cloud, the recording will automatically upload to the Zoom 1.3 tool.
Recordings can be accessed through the Cloud Recordings tab in the Zoom 1.3 tool.
Note: If your course is scheduled as 100% in-person and you are interested in recording your lectures, you can utilize the Panopto Video tool in your Canvas course space. Additional information regarding Panopto can be found on the Cougar Capture Tutorials page of the Learning Innovations website.
