Email authentication uses an email sent to the email address registered as the primary email for the Okta account. The email will contain a verification code used to complete the okta signin.
WSU Recommendation
WSU does not support email authentication; This option is not available.
Email based MFA has is vulnerable to phishing attacks. Email MFA requires WSU to trust external email providers, and cannot be used for WSU accounts that are tied to the WSU email system.
- Does not require an app on a mobile device
- Does not require specific browser capbabilities
- Poor resistance to phishing attacks
- Vulnerable to external system attacks
- Relies on the security of non-WSU systems
