Which Subject Area should I use?

  • Student Data Warehouse (SDW)
    • This subject area should be used to report on data about current, or previously enrolled students.
    • This subject area contains data on:
      • Student Records - For example, classes, grades, career, program, plan, etc.
      • Financial Aid - Financial aid award and ISIR data
      • Student Financials - Student financial item charges, and student assistantship data
      • Person Data - student citizenship, ethnic, address, and service indicator data
  • Admissions Snapshot (ADW)
    • Should be used to report on students before they are enrolled at WSU, or perspective students.
    • This subject area is snapshot data. This means that the data appears as it was on the day you choose.
      • For example, if you choose to see a student's past enrollment status, you can select a date you want to see, and the data will appear as it was on that day
      • To get the most current information, simply put in today's date
      • Because the data is snapshot, errors in the data will also appear as they were on a given day
  • Census
    • This subject area is the Official University Enrollment data.
    • It contains data from Admissions, Student Records, Person Data in myWSU.
    • Snapshots of data are captured as of the university official census day and end of term after grade posted.  The Office of Institutional Research perform data checking and cleaning from the data captured, and compile the official snapshots.
    • It should be used for all official reporting and analysis.
