Overview

Some consumer-grade wireless devices do not work with WSU’s Enterprise wireless networks. To address this, WSU provides a service called ClearPass, which allows most wireless-enabled devices to connect.

Note: Not all devices will work. Chromecast, Google Home, and some Smart TVs may work, but some may not. Smart TVs that can use a wired Ethernet connection usually work.

Requirements

  • A device already connected to the network with a web browser (e.g., phone or computer).

  • The device you wish to connect and its MAC address.

    • Every device stores its MAC address in a different location. A list of common devices and instructions can be found here: Finding the MAC Address of Your Device.

    • If you cannot locate the MAC address, contact the Crimson Service Desk for assistance.

Note: MAC stands for Media Access Control and is not related to Apple Mac computers.

Instructions

  1. On a device already connected to the network, open a web browser and go to:
  2. Log in using your Network ID (NID) and password, the same credentials you use for WSU email and wireless access.
  3. The page will display two options: Create Device and Manage Devices.
  4. To set up a new device, select Create Device
    1. Enter the MAC Address of the device.
      • Type it correctly; an incorrect number will not produce an error.
      • Do not worry about capitalization, dashes, or colons; the system will correct the format automatically.
    2. Device Name: Enter a descriptive name so you can recognize it later. Adding a note is helpful if you have multiple devices.
    3. Accept the Terms and Conditions.
    4. Click Create to complete the registration.
  5. To manage existing devices, select Manage Devices:
Click the row of the device you want to manage.
    • Remove — revokes Wi-Fi privileges for that device.
    • Edit — allows you to change device settings.
    • Print — prints an information sheet about the device.
  6. Connect your device to one of the available guest networks:

    • WSU ResNet Guest, WSU ResNet Guest Aruba, WSU Guest, WSU Guest Aruba, or WSU Guest Crimson.

    • If the connection fails or prompts for login, contact the Crimson Service Desk.

    • You should not see a page asking for your name or email.
