WSU’s GlobalProtect VPN service allows students, faculty, and staff to securely access university systems from off-campus. This guide answers common questions about VPN portals, usage, and supported platforms.

What is the VPN portal?

WSU VPN portals use OKTA Multifactor Authentication (MFA) - the same MFA system used for MyWSU, Workday, and WSU email.

Who should use the WSU GlobalProtect VPN service?

The WSU GlobalProtect VPN service is intended for:

  • Students, Faculty, and Staff
  • Accessing WSU systems remotely
  • Connecting to on-campus computers via Remote Desktop (RDP)
  • Accessing internal university resources securely

When should the WSU GlobalProtect VPN service not be used?

The WSU GlobalProtect should not be used for:

  • Streaming (YouTube, Netflix)
  • Social media (Facebook, Instagram)
  • Personal email or unrelated browsing
  • VPN should only be used for academic or university business purposes.

What operating systems are supported?

WSU currently uses GlobalProtect version 6.3.x.
