Panopto is the recommended tool for student recording assignments.

By default, students do not have the ability to create recordings in Panopto. To allow students to record in Panopto, instructors must create a Panopto assignment folder.

Note: The Canvas media recorder should not be used for student recording assignments, and students should not upload media recordings directly to Canvas.

Before you can create a Panopto assignment folder, you must set up Panopto in your Canvas course space. 

Use the following instructions to create a Panopto assignment folder.

  1. Login to wsu.edu, and navigate to your Canvas course space.
  2. In your Canvas course space, select Panopto Video from the course navigation menu. This will take you to your course Panopto folder.
  3. Once in your course Panopto folder, select the More Actions icon and from the drop-down menu select Settings. This will open the Overview pop-up window.
  4. From the Overview pop-up window select Create Assignment Folder.


Now that the Panopto assignment folder is set up, you can share the Navigating Panopto as a Student Knowledge Base article with your students.
