When submitting a new course, faculty and staff should create a syllabus using the Canvas New Course Syllabus Template. This template contains all the required syllabus elements as described at https://syllabus.wsu.edu, and, when the course is taught, the completed template syllabus may be migrated to the actual Canvas course space.

Steps:

  1. Navigate to the Create New Course page and enter the Course Prefix, Course Number and Additional Instructors, if any.
    1. Additional Instructor field only accepts only up to two additional instructors and their Network ID (NID) needs to be provided separated by a comma.

       2. Clicking submit automatically takes you to the new course’s Canvas syllabus template.

       3. Edit the template. Fill in all italicized/highlighted items. Save your work.

       4. When the new course syllabus is complete

    1. Publish the course in Canvas.

                b. Navigate to Syllabus in the Canvas course menu.

                c. Copy the URL for the syllabus into a new browser window to ensure it is visible.

                d. If the syllabus page is visible without requiring Okta authentication, navigate to the Curriculum Proposal Form and select Request Type: New Course from the drop-down menu.

                   

               e. When completing the Registrar’s new course form, add the syllabus URL to the box below.

Note: To delete a course space please submit a ticket to the Crimson Service Desk (CSD) including the name of the sandbox.
