The Bluecat Host and CNAME records only allow one to create records for IP ranges that are under the control of Bluecat Address manager. This guide provides one method to work around this limitation using external hosts.

Step-By-Step guide

  1. Request an "external host" by sending a ticket to the Crimson Service Desk. The ticket should include the full hostname that you wish to register, as provided by the external host provider. If an IP is available, include the IP, but only the host name is required.

This step requires administrative rights within the Bluecat interface, and cannot be delegated as of June 2021.

  2. Once the external host is created, create CNAME entries using the "external host" option.
    1. Navigate to the zone in which the CNAME (alias) entry should be created. From the + menu, select Alias Record
    2. Fill in the alias name, select "External Host" , then start typing the name of the external host.

Be sure to check the external host checkbox before starting to search for the target host.
