Microsoft 365: ProPlus FAQs

Microsoft 365 ProPlus FAQs
Who is eligible for Microsoft 365  ProPlus? Microsoft 365  ProPlus is available to all current, active WSU students, faculty and staff, associated with their WSU Network ID (NID). Eligible individuals will automatically have their accounts activated starting at the end of 2016.

What products do you get with your Microsoft 365  ProPlus subscription? The software available with this subscription includes the most current version of: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote, Skype for Business (plus Publisher and Access for Windows PC systems). Some additional applications available with our campus subscription (not all are available on every device type) are: InfoPath 2013 (Windows only), Sway, Class Notebook (add-on to OneNote), Forms, Delve, and Power BI (Basic). BI Pro requires the department to purchase license directly from Software House International (SHI).

How many computers/devices can I install the Microsoft 365  ProPlus programs on? This subscription covers a fully-installed local Microsoft experience across PCs (Windows 7, 8.x, 10), Macs, Windows tablets, iPad® and Android™ tablets, and most mobile devices. Each user can install Microsoft on 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets (Windows, iPad, and Android), and 5 phones.

Can I install Microsoft 365  ProPlus on my home computer/personal devices? Yes, you can install Microsoft 365 Pro Plus on your work computer and home computer/personal devices.

Will I be required to install Microsoft 365 ProPlus on my work computer? No. Installation of Microsoft 365 Pro Plus is completely optional. If you already have Microsoft installed on your system, you may wish to keep that installation in lieu of installing Microsoft 365  Pro Plus.

Will I have access to Microsoft Online? Yes, you can login to Office365.wsu.edu and access the Microsoft products online on the website from within your web browser. Microsoft products available online are: Word, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Excel, with access to your OneDrive storage. (The Microsoft Online versions of these applications may not have all the advanced features of the installed applications.) Browsers supported are: Edge, IE 10 or later, Firefox, Chrome and Safari. Additional tools available online are: Sway, Class Notebook (add-on to OneNote), and Forms.

Will my installed Microsoft products update automatically? As a subscription service, updates to the various applications will occur on a regular basis to allow you to stay up-to-date with the most current versions.

What happens when I leave WSU? Because the Microsoft 365  ProPlus subscription must be associated with an active user account, the Microsoft desktop applications perform a routine check for user account status via the Internet. Microsoft 365  ProPlus will be de-provisioned from your devices when you separate from WSU (i.e. when you are no longer an active employee or enrolled student).

If I already have a version of Microsoft Microsoft on my machine, will I need to uninstall it first before I install Microsoft 365 ProPlus? It won't let you install the Microsoft 2016 programs from the Microsoft 365  ProPlus Subscription if you already have a regular copy of Microsoft 2016 installed. You may wish to back up your PST file and archive files for Outlook (the files all your email is in if you are using Outlook) prior to uninstalling the current version of Microsoft from your machine. (Faculty and staff can ask their local desktop support how to do this. Also, WSU employees may need help from their local desktop support to install the software if they do not have local admin rights to their machines.)

What Microsoft 365 applications are available by OS/device? Here is a complete list of Microsoft 365 applications available by device.

Can I use Microsoft 365 applications in a Linux environment? Yes, you can login to Office365.wsu.edu and access the Microsoft products online on the website from within your web browser.

Will Microsoft 365 ProPlus run with my current installation of Visio and Project? If you have Visio Pro or Project Pro, you may need to uninstall these to allow the Microsoft 365 Click-to-Run Installer to install the Microsoft 365 apps.

What is Power BI? Power BI for Microsoft 365 is Microsoft's cloud-based business intelligence (BI) solution that works from within Excel and Microsoft 365 to analyze and visualize data in a self-service way.

Unable to open a password protected or encrypted email attachment? This problem occurs because the mail is being routed through Proofpoint. Proofpoint does not allow password protected attachments. You can work around this by renaming the attachment to an unknown extension before sending it. Once the attachment is received, the recipient can change the extension back to normal.
