Issue:

SSL/TLS certificates are in use all over the web. Sometimes, it can be helpful to inspect a certificate to make sure your connection is not being tampered with.

Steps to inspect an SSL/TLS certificate

Using Firefox (using version 91.6.0esr for this guide)

  1. Load the website you're trying to inspect. Make sure to use the HTTPS version of the site.
  2. In the URL bar, find the icon that looks like a padlock ( or ), and left click it.
  3. Depending on the site, click Connection Secure or Connection Not Secure. This will bring up a sub-menu with basic details about the site.
  4. Click More Information to load the "Page Info" dialog box. You can use this dialog box to determine details about the site, and the SSL certificate in use.
  5. If more detailed information is needed about the certificates in use, click the View Certificate button.
