Issue:
SSL/TLS certificates are in use all over the web. Sometimes, it can be helpful to inspect a certificate to make sure your connection is not being tampered with.
Solution:
Steps to inspect an SSL/TLS certificate
Using Firefox (using version 91.6.0esr for this guide)
- Load the website you're trying to inspect. Make sure to use the HTTPS version of the site.
- In the URL bar, find the icon that looks like a padlock ( or ), and left click it.
- Depending on the site, click Connection Secure or Connection Not Secure. This will bring up a sub-menu with basic details about the site.
- Click More Information to load the "Page Info" dialog box. You can use this dialog box to determine details about the site, and the SSL certificate in use.
- If more detailed information is needed about the certificates in use, click the View Certificate button.
