Issue:

A user would like to update their name in Canvas

Solution:

All data for users in credit courses in Canvas is fed from myWSU. If a user has a preferred name in myWSU, the preferred name will be sent to Canvas otherwise the user's primary name will be sent to Canvas. Please follow the steps below to add or edit your preferred name.

  1. Login to myWSU (https://my.wsu.edu)
  2. Click on Profile tile.
  3. Under personal details,
    1. If you do not have a preferred name, click + to add a name.
      1. Name type will be defaulted to Preferred. You cannot change this as this is the only name type you are allowed to add.
      2. Enter name details
      3. Don't forget to Save
    2. If you do have a preferred name on file, click on preferred name to edit 
      1. Edit name details
      2. Don't forget to SAVE

All changes in myWSU will be reflected in Canvas in 1-2 hours.

Primary name can only be changed with proper documentation and must be done by the WSU Payroll office.  See http://payroll.wsu.edu/namechgs/namechgs.htm for procedures.
